Rap or Not?
In my few short years I've made it a point to experience as much as I can. This includes spending time with a very diverse group of individuals. The more people you're with the more types of music you end up experiencing. I have found that there tends to be two over arching groups of smokers, as far as musical tastes go. The first are the people who are very into rap when they're stoned. The second group are the people who are into trippy tracks when they're blazed. The two groups tend to be mutualy exclusive, those into rap dislike trippy music and vice versa. Though there are plenty of exeptions such as myself and some others I have met, on the mean the two groups tend to be seprate.
I'm posting this mostly as a data gathering request to further my reserch. Have any of you experienced this as well? Those of you who enjoy rap, are you also into some of the more trippy music varaities? Those that enjoy trippy music, do you stick with that and tend to avoid the harshness of rap? Are you into both? I would apreciate any input I can get.

Re: Rap or Not?
I'm not a fan of rap at all lately...... I've never bought any although I enjoyed alot of Hammers stuff, or maybe Tone Locs Funky Cold Medina. The lighter side of rap I spose. Even Sir Mixalots Put 'em on the glass (I had Sir Weighsalot in my taxi once) was fun and funny.
I'm a fan of all kinds of rock, especially psychedelic. I can enjoy folk and bluegrass in the right settings, and am a big fan of jazz....days of old thru fusion. |

Re: Rap or Not?
I like almost every musical genre except for rap/hip hop, trance, opera & new country. But I know quite a few stoners in their 20's who's musical tastes crossover from hip hop to classic rock etc. My favorite music would be classic rock and blues, followed by folk & bluegrass. Favorite band would be Floyd.

Can't say I'm a fan of rap, just doesn't appeal to me musically, but what would you class as trippy music?

Re: Rap or Not?
I listen to a lot of rock when I'm stoned... There is something about just JAMMIN on your guitar like no other... Heavy-rock with a twist of classic. Mmmm It's like it just surrounds your body... Hanging on to every note. I love music with everything i've got. I would love to make a career out of music... Not actually playing... But like working for a record label or something. Music "completes" me haha.
I honestly love almost every type of music besides country. I saw some of you dont like trance/electronica. Are you serious? I guess you have to get into it... But listening to that music can bring (at least me) your high to a different level. You'd be suprised by all the different beats that you can catch while stoned. It's like a all over feeling. |

. But I do think it has a future and will be with us for a very long time......... its the elevator music of the future.:smoke2:But getting back to rap/hip hop, I do like much of the lyrics, not the gangsta, woman hatin stuff, but the social & political stuff. Its the repetition that really gets to me in the music. Scratching is like nails on a chalk board. And sampling is a way to make music without making music. But different strokes for different folks. :smoke2: |

Re: Rap or Not?
I'm not really fan of electronica but some of DJ Shadow's stuff I don't mind, has a lot of interesting stuff going on and some Nine Inch Nails, but I only listen to them occasionally.

Re: Rap or Not?
I am a big fan of rap and hip-hop, BUT THE WHOLE NEW "making a dance for radio play" shit (ie. lean wit it rock wit it) is KILLING RAP AND HIP-HOP AND THE MADNESS NEEDS TO STOP... I do not hold a complete bias though! I am into listening to some rock that some of my other stoner friends like. I like to spread the love with the kind of people I hang around with music wise and just about all of them are like me and hold no complete bias towards other types of music. I am not here to completely bash any style of music (except for country, sorry) but I like to also try out some rock or some stoner music while I am high. So I would say that music wise I am somewhat open to other styles of music and am somewhat like you Hitchhiker! :)
