WSU Symposium Looks at Mich. Medical-Marijuana Law

DETROIT (AP) — Lawyers, public officials and doctors are gathering at Wayne State University to discuss the state of Michigan's medical-marijuana law, nearly a year after it was approved by voters.

The one-day Michigan Medical Marijuana Symposium is being hosted by the Detroit university's law school from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT Saturday.

The keynote address by Wayne State professor Robert Sedler will give a survey of medical marijuana law. Panel discussions will address civic, legal and medical issues surrounding Michigan's program, which allows patients to use marijuana with a doctor's recommendation.

Michigan voters approved the program last November. The state began issuing cards to registered patients in April.
