The Berks County Community Foundation is planning to host a panel discussion in October on the pros and cons of legalizing marijuana for recreational use in Pennsylvania.

The Oct. 10 talk is part of the group's "Consider It" series and will include national experts on the topic.
The following are scheduled to participate:

Barbara Brohl, executive director of the Colorado Department of Revenue who oversaw development of nation's first program to regulate recreational marijuana.

Dr. Stuart Gitlow, executive director of the Annenberg Physician Training Program in Addictive Diseases and past president of the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

Chris Goldstein, communications director for the Philadelphia chapter of NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws).

Kevin Sabet, former senior adviser in President Barack Obama's Office of National Drug Control Policy and director of the Drug Policy Institute.

The event is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Reading hotel, 1741 Papermill Road, Wyomissing. Tickets are $12 and include dinner. They go on sale Tuesday at consideritmarijuana.eventbrite.com.

This year, Pennsylvania became the 24th state to allow medical marijuana.

The state's program, which is in the process of being set up, allows patients with certain conditions to obtain certain medical cannabis products from state-licensed dispensaries. Smoking the plant for medical or other purposes remains illegal.
