I do not believe in clipping leaves.

Damaged leaves can still photosynthesize, and more importantly, if the plant dosen't need the leaf any more, it will move the nutrients and accumulated sugars from the leaf to the other parts of the plant, including the buds.

Thus also leaves should not be removed before or during budding, as the plant can utilize the leaves as food for the buds.
