Power of Significance

Merriam-Webster defines significance as follows:
1 a: something that is conveyed as a meaning often obscurely or indirectly
b: the quality of conveying or implying
2 a: the quality of being important : moment
b: the quality of being statistically significant

The need for meaning and importance in our lives is something built into us. We all have a desire to know that our lives are significant; that we aren't just taking up space in an already overly populated world. Most disgruntled employees lack the perception of their significance in their work place. This is usually due to only hearing anything about their performance except when it is bad.

I believe that Obama is doing so well because he understands the power of significance. He tells people there is hope and that they are significant in the overall plan for the world. When people feel significant, they rally. They get energized. They are willing to go that second mile for the team.

As a cannabis consumer, you are significant. Every time you light that bowl or make those special brownies you are making a statement that prohibition doesn't work. We all are significant, but we can become of greater significance in the movement for legalization. Many of the 420 related organizations make it so very easy for us to make a stand with our elected representatives in government. Use these resources to expand your area of influence. You may say, I'm only one person. We are all only one person, but together, we are a massive movement.

Cannabis related films are doing well at the box office and on the small screen. In most places the actual use of cannabis is hidden away in our society, but the culture is being celebrated. We are part of that culture and that culture is significant in today's society. The more this culture is shared and celebrated, the more it is accepted.

Think about ways that you bring significance to the movement; be it letter writing, one on one discussions with non-users, rally attendee, etc.. Also, think about how you can add significance to others. I know at times you read a grow journal and get bogged down with all the congratulatory comments about the grow. Those congratulatory comments are adding significance to the grower. That is one thing that I love about giving reps to others; it is my way of saying you are making a significant contribution to the community and therefore the movement.

The power of significance! Think about it!
