Re: Poormans Swampgrass Tron Grow

Good morning all.

Well,it seems that the soil I purchased contained some dreaded spider mites.
More of a pain in the butt than a major threat.Seems that alot of growers run into this problem from time to time.
I've been doing my research as to what I can do naturally to control this persistent critter.
Browsing the internet,(google is my best friend)I have come across numerous
articles in various gardening forums.
One prevention I was able to enact today.I found this article: Natural Garden Pest Control: Repel Pests with Plants, Ladybugs and Home-Made Pesticides
Upon reading it I came across this recommendation:

"Chives planted near tomatoes and carrots repel pests and improve the flavor of the vegetables"

This interested me as I have chives in my aerogarden.
I decided to give it a go and tranplanted my chives into my tron with my two ladies.

Ok,I decided that I may want to add a few mite eating insects. The question now was, what to get?
Predator beetles are expensive.I ruled them out because of that.
After some poking around I found a site that sells ladybugs at a relatively low price. 300 count for $3.85 a) Live Ladybugs in mesh bag 300ct.
300 ladybugs. That's alot!I'll have to do the math to figure out a good ratio to introduce to my tron and then I may house the rest or just set them free in my yard.
Either way you can't go wrong for that price.
It will be interesting to see how both of these methods work.
I will keep this journal updated once a week with pics to see what's going on with my simple garden.
Until Sunday!
