Like most things, you get what you pay for.
Our (close to), top of the line combo meter at work (pH,EC,PPM), cost right at $750.
That is stupidly expensive, but it also points out what can you expect from a $20 epray special.
The best compromise I've seen is the Milwaukees that are in the $50-$70 range for single function, say just pH, or just EC, or about double that for combo meters.
Do your research and spend wisely, then grow well.
