Poor man's cardboard box. first time grower.

Hello all,

I am long time reader of this awesome board but that's my first post. I learned lots of things from here and will be glad for some advises/help from all the experienced growers around.

The main problem in my case is that i must hide my growbox and the bigger problem is i need to use as little electricity as possible because i am sharing the bill with people that should't know that i'am growing.

The idea came couple of weeks ago.

I got two kinda large cardboard boxes full of unused stuff sitting under the table for years and nobody is touching them, so i decided to make one of them a "growbox".

The whole box is isolated with one of those reflective things for the front window of a cars, inserted 2 cpu fans (one to blow fresh air inside and one to take the old air outside) and 65W (4000 lumens) CFL. The plant is Afghan Kush X Black domina from world of seeds medical collection. I didn't germinate the seed. just planted it in the soil (not sure which kind of soil i am using but it says that is specially for green plants, has perlite and other "extras", looks very good and drains the water really well). The pot is 15 liters.

I planted the seed 14 days ago. it showed up on the 4th day so it's 10 days old at the moment.Today for the first time i watered the plant with some fert (Hesi - Composition: nitrogen 24%, phosphorus 21%, potassium 27%, magnesium, calcium, sulphate, trace elements, iodine, vitamins, plant sugars and amino acids.)

I am first time grower and decided to try LST technique. Read and watched lots about it but still has some more questions and i will be glad if some of you - experienced growers to help me with. When should i start training the plant,
?when using LST and do i need to start later with flowering or still can start on 3rd-4th week of vegging. Are 4000 lumens enough for a single LSTed plant.. I am planning to put 150W Envirolite or 3x45W CFLs for flowering.. will they be enough for the plant ? Do i need to cut the top of the plant or i can LST without stressing the plant with cutting..

Thanks in advance for your future answers and thanks for sharing your experience with novice growers like me!

Sorry for my intermediate english..It's not my native language..

Cheers

re: Poor man's cardboard box. first time grower.

Hello again.

Still no answer but i keep growing..

its now 19th day since the plant sprouted.this pics are 4-5 days old :

This leaf looks strange ? does anyone knows what it might be ?

Yesterday i started LST the plant.. for almost 2 days the plant looks great after the training. i am doing it for the first time but i think i've done it right..

I also bought 70W HPS lamp and tomorrow i will put it inside.

I dont have reflector for it and i think that i will have heat issues in the small box so i was wondering if this cheap a$$ DIY reflecto-cooltube thingy will do the job??

i made it from beer can. the idea is to put and secure the light socket to the right side of the can (with the small hole which will be for the cables) and to put pc fan to the left side for blowing the hot air away... will it make any difference? IMO it will be better than only the bulb...

in few days i will report again
cya

I can´t really offer you any advice (I´m new to this myself) I just wanted to say that whatever you´re doing seems to be working. That plant looks perfect, great colour.
Is it fem?

Hey klogg,
Looking good so far - LST looks like its all ok, and your using foliar feeding right?
I agree, carboard box + HPS e.t.c = fire. A quick mdf box will work just as well, a little more space plus you could add adaquet ventilation.

All in all i like the look of the strain, look forward to seing your baby grow

Hi lads

a little update from me...
The lady is 24th day since she sprouted and day 5 in flowering. Updated the box with the HPS and she seems to be happy

So.. that is for now.. Outside is something like 30 degrees Celsium and i was thinking to put her outside. What do you think about it ?
I will continue the 12/12 schedule no matter in or outside.

They look great! If you have the ability to keep them inside for the rest of flowering, I would do that. ;-)

re: Poor man's cardboard box. first time grower.

hey lads

long time no see.

sorry about that. crazy summer

a lots of things changed in my first grow. few weeks after the hps was installed the plant became too big to fit in the cardboard box so i moved the plant outdoor. at the moment is around day 75 (55 flowering) .. the pictures are from the middle of july until 2 days ago.

for couple of weeks the plant was only on plain water because i was away.with this outdoor the flowering is much slower but i still hope this colas to be filled with trichs and flavour
i suppose in 3 weeks to be close to the long awaited moment
back online now so i will try to update more often.
