The Growing Pains Of Activism

Last night I had a phenomenal experience that brought me into the hearts and lives of all the past activists, and particularly female activists, who at times struggled to get from one day to the next against the adversity of others, in order to further their individual causes.
...Yesterday, my family tore me apart from the soul outward. I was ridiculed, insulted and told that I wasn't okay and that I am leaving a terrible legacy for myself because I support legalizing marijuana, marijuana organizations and consequently, that I don't believe that nude photography is evil. I realized that my own mother doesn't quite accept me, although I still love her all the same. I could barely escape to privacy before I crumpled to the ground, shattered, and sobbing for hours. It still brings stinging tears to my eyes as I write this; it still hurts.
However, the pain transformed into a wonderment about all activists and how they stood up against adversaries. Did Harriet Tubman feel the same frustration, anger and rage? I bet Rosa Parks did. And I bet Alice Paul did when she was force fed and beaten while imprisoned for fighting for women's suffrage/the right to vote.
It's a difficult thing, being twenty-one, a woman, and being progressive and liberal. Especially in a family of religious conservatives. At least I know I'll always have the pat on my back from all the women before my time, who bravely fought for what they believed was right. And ironically, my mother did vote yes for medical marijuana. Go figure!

I understand fully where you are coming from. All I can say is that to live the mission is an onerous task in this judgemental world. If you believe in yourself, that is all that matters. Janie, you are one brave woman doing what you have done, standing up for something you truely believe in in a way that inspires others. Your decision to post on 420 girls produced some of the most beautiful marijuana related pictures I have seen, beautiful because they came from the heart.

Don't tear yourself up too bad, darling. My mother has been known to steal my stash to smoke with her husband, yet she constantly belittled me when I campaigned for medical cannabis in Missouri and she called child protective services on me in an attempt to keep me from moving to California. She told them that I smoked marijuana (as if anyone in KC didn't know; I'd been on the cover of a local rag) and the CPS worker told me to get out to Cali.
My point is that this society has been brainwashed for nearly the last century and re-education is a painstakingly slow process. Additionally, a religiously conservative mother would be expected to have misgivings about her daughter taking her clothes off for any cause, no matter how noble it might be. The best thing that you can do is realize that her hurtful words stem from her failure to understand your perspective. Arm yourself with accurate information and keep the line of communication open.

shelterd from the real world with nasty people .turn round and tell ya parents to fuck off and iv it shocks them u done a good job iv they shout at u like a snob move out and dont ever speak to them .friend ov mine told me a story his mother hated cannabis for years then one day her best friend terned round and told her she had been smokin cannabis for years then her views changed about cannabis .lifes to short to take advice off ya parents havnt spoke to mine since i was sixteen sounds like u need to exspereance alot more in life your far to dramatic should kick your ass out on the streets and see iv your talkin about the same things your stuck in lala land wake the fuck upPosted 03-06-2008 at 12:14 AM by bennybud
