Here it is assembled.

You could easily put six bulbs on a standard power strip. I personally am not using this setup because I have some HIDs and will only be using CFLs for the first two weeks of vegging, but thought some CFL users might like it. I recommend using zip ties to secure the fixtures to the power strip.
That's exactly what i picked up from walmart yesterday, 4 100watt equivilent cfl's. I'm germinating seeds as i type. I am gonna go up and pick up 2 more lights tomorrow for that 6 total. The box i'm using is a 2 ft x 2 ft x 2 ft one. I wanna see if i can get my plant to grow as squat as Silentsmoke's.

Edit: Actually, i think ima do the middle y setup with 2 75watt hps bulbs from home depot. They screw into regular light fixtures. I think it'll create a good mix of spectrums and i'll make sure the box very well ventilated cause there are gonna be a lot of lights in a small space.

Re: Homemade CFL chandelier

The concept does seem to be a good ideal for smaller spaces but you really should install a hood or reflector to get the most out of it. Fouros has the worst light penetrion abilities but they do run cooler than the HIDs, alot cooler.

You might want to use our gallery next time you post pics, all pics not from our gallery are eventually removed making this thread alot less useful for others to see.

Re: Homemade CFL chandelier

i bet the old style ceiling light that has two sockets parrallel to the ceiling and oppposite each other would give better light pattern but yours is quicjker and EASY will try this in a fridge type mother
cab [ its small] next time i set up a run in the garden.... i like the zip ties idea i use several groups of them on the walls in my big cab as routing paths for wires but leave some loose enough to
change wires

Yes that would give you enough lumen to keep a plant happy in veg, but you may want to save your money for a hps before flowering.

Re: Homemade CFL chandelier

I am so impressed with thier spectrum that I am doubtful that my MH and LEDS will produce the overall quality that I got from jsut 450w of mixed blue/red CFL's. Honestly.

Ya, 12 of those and you've got 31,000 lumens. Thats creeping into metal halide output territory. Plus, at wallymart 3 of the 4 pack 150 watt eq. cfl's will set you back less than $20. That is nutsy.

Re: Homemade CFL chandelier

The CFL chandelier I built @ walmart has 16 - 26w cfl @1700 lumens each.
That on just one socket, for one plant, one inch away! I'll be adding another chandelier identical but with 40w cfl or bigger if i can get it. The first one set me back only $45 or less. I also just used the extention cord they're pluged into to hang them. I also use a mix of the 56k and 33k spectrum bulbs in it. It's definetly bright and working. My jewel is pushin 7 wks old, flowering 7-10 days and is only 9-10 inches tall, 13 inch canopy, and 3-5 inches of preflowers and branching on either side of the stalk! Dang near as wide and bushy as it is tall. Solid foliage from ground to top. Dozens of juicy nodes all grouped within mm's of each other.

Nice to hear. I keep telling people that lotsa cfls are an excelent way to grow. I love it. I'm gonna build a light chandelier similar to StoneyGeoff's in his Scrog grow journal. I just need the money for the materials.

Re: Homemade CFL chandelier

I got my lights upgraded. I added 3 42w cfls @ 2700 lumens each and 3 more 26w cfls @ 1700 lumens each. 22 bulbs, 573 watts, and 37,500 lumens and boy is that closet bright. Hot too but 2 more fans fixed that. I had to split my chandelere up, I have 5 chandelere's now with 3 single hang bulbs for those hard to reach places. :) Check out the pics at my journal or the gallery.
