400w conversion set-up v cfl chandelier

Heres the deal. I have a 2' by 3.5' closet to work with and i want to change my set up around i think. Right now i have 2 in early flower in soil and 6 hydro clones that went straight to 12/12 as an experiment. I am using a 400w hps conversion light (that i also have the mh bulb for) to bud this time around.

What i was thinking was next time instead of the 1 400w which produces alot of heat, taking a thin sheet of ply wood a little bit smaller than the closet so i could move it around and putting 6 or 8 150w cfl in it.

So my questions are.....

*Which is cheaper??
*What s more efficient??
*Whats cooler?

I got lucky I found a place that auctions off old shop items including lights and you can pick up 400w metal halides for $30 just make sure there multi tap so you can hook it up to a regular outlet. I used a old computer cord as I have several laying around, I just cut off the end and wired it into the box and wa-la 400 watts of light for less than the cfl bulbs alone plus all the work to make the set up
