I'm Donna Lambert. I have faced 9 years of life threatening illness as well as a major car accident that left me with injuries and chronic pain. A physician originally recommended marijuana to me. I did not seek it out. I always thought the government policies towards marijuana were hypocritical, but like most people I did not believe that they applied to me. AND THEN I WENT ON CHEMOTHERAPY AND BECAME A MEDICAL MARIJUANA PATIENT MYSELF. The people at the local stores gave me FREE marijuana, and being so ill, my otherwise healthy daughter went and picked it up for me. I saw lies regularly scattered on the television and then they closed down the stores. When I became well enough to get around again, I also noticed that some people in midlife who became sick and did not know where to get the marijuana a physician had recommended to them were being taken advantage of financially. So I decided to help. A friend of mine had helped a police officer on chemotherapy, and that seemed to be alright. I still believe that I have acted in accordance with California state laws in helping another qualified patient to obtain marijuana. I do not believe I would be under arrest and on trial in 56 out of the 58 other counties in California. The San Diego Narcotics task force decided to have a cop who was a qualified, physician recommended medical marijuana patient spend months (and millions of your tax payer dollars) to set up 20-40 people in the medical marijuana community. They committed swat style raids and left many of us extremely traumatized. Many of us are too ill to face trial and incarceration and are pleading guilty to a crime that we know is supposed to be exempt from prosecution and that we are supposed to be protected under state law.
They also included us in a press conference "Endless Summer". In this they lied about dangerous drug felons preying on military housing. The truth was they had rented a house in a normal looking neighborhood that happened to be in Pacific Beach and lured us there one by one. At the same time they also found and set up 10 or so Meth, Ecstasy dealers around Pacific Beach and lured them there, one by one. I myself was curious to see if it could be true that "dangerous drug dealers" were masquerading as medical marijuana providers. Was there a crossover? I obtained a list of the 33 people arrested and began looking them up the courthouse.. I have researched about 20 so far, and to this date I have not found one single Medical Marijuana provider that was doing anything but providing medical marijuana to a qualified patient. TAX MONEY: I have been told that each raid cost $75,000 or more dollars. Add 6 months pay to a task force of 11 and even before trials, your local government has spent more than $3,000,000. Is this how you want your tax money spent? How many schools or libraries could have used that money? I have been told that even the smallest basic trial starts at $40,000. A year in jail is another 50K. And for what? Medical Marijuana. Legalized in 1996, San Diego has refused to accept this state law and aggressively arrests and prosecutes anyone who attempts to assert their rights under it. This issue applies to EVERYBODY. If you are sick or disabled, and you wonder why you are having a hard time obtaining physician recommended marijuana, or if you wonder why it costs so much, please come to my preliminary hearing on Thursday, April 23, 2009. I have to report to room B11 at 8:15, but I am pretty sure nothing will start before 9:00 or 9:30. I have been told that the person in B11 will send me out to another courtroom, but you can show up at anytime to find out where I have been sent. If you are not busy, I would appreciate your support in the courtroom. If you would like to protest or show your support, a group of us will be outside around 8:00am handing out flyer's. Please show your support. If you cannot come, please take the time to telephone the District Attorneys office, and the Mayor, the San Diego City Council, and The San Diego County Board of Supervisors. Please ask them to stop attacking the medical marijuana community! Thank You, Donna Lambert Please come to my preliminary hearing on Thursday, April 23, 2009.
