Nevada City - Informational Workshop On Marijuana Dispensaries - Aug. 19

Nevada City is holding an informational workshop on medical marijuana dispensaries next week to “educate/inform the attendees of the issues that the council has to consider,” according to a city-issued press release.

The council had agreed to do a workshop at its bi-monthly meeting on Wednesday after Councilman and Vice Mayor Robert Bergman expressed concern that not enough information had been gathered about dispensaries and their possible effects on the community.

This workshop is as much an information gathering process for Bergman because he is undecided on the issue, which led to an extended moratorium in the council's last meeting. Councilwoman Barbara Coffman has voiced her support for dispensaries and so has Mayor Reinette Senum.

Councilwoman Sally Harris and Councilman David McKay have expressed concerns about public safety and whether or not Nevada City is large enough for a dispensary.

Topics the workshop will address include: Social and economic impact, location of the proposed dispensary, benefits to the city and public safety.

The information workshop will occur 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19 at city hall.
