Are you talking about the plants or the clones. LOL! The COB that's flowering in funny because I topped it and put it back into veg for about a week. So, she's a bit behind. I'm ok with that. ;-) The clones... I don't know. Maybe the two were just too small.

Re: Hydro Grow: California Orange Bud

Yeah I guess both but that explains the flowering. It does look like those 2 were a bit little. They still look green though you think they are going to make it? Any roots yet?

Re: Hydro Grow: California Orange Bud

I don't know if they'll make it. I'm hoping for the best. They all showed signs that they were trying to root. The larger clone has visible roots coming out of the bottom of the mesh pot. The other two appeared to be growing very small roots, but nothin too much.

Hiya Ms Fox, was just readin up on your grow and looks like your learning alot and getting nice smoke from it. Thats awesome, I usually learn by casualty. lol
hope you dont mind me throwing out a tip:
I have almost 100% success rate with clones scince I started using a humidity dome 2 years ago, I do cull out the weak ones but am shocked if any dont root. I keep a wet washcloth under the clones (seperated by a trey), except for the initial soak I dont water the rockwool at all until there is an "octopus" of roots sticking out the bottom. Once a day I wipe the "sweat" off the dome. From start to finish 7-10 days, never had an issue with "hard to clone" plants either. Do not give them much light, as this will encourage top growth rather than root growth.
Good luck on the rest of your grow, looks like you may win!!

Thanks flyfishinrock! I did use a humidity dome for the clones; however, they were on the 18/6 light schedule. I will know better next time. ;-)

Re: Hydro Grow: California Orange Bud

Ms. Fox with your pollen question; what I did was take a zipplock and put it over any pollen sacks ready to open, then give the stalk a good shake. From there what i did was take a paint brush, dip it into the pollen bag and "paint" the pistils i wanted pollinated. I had all my fans off for this, and then left them off for like 15 minutes after i pollinated. It worked for me, the pollen didnt go anywhere that I didnt want it to. Hope that helps

When you say "much light" how much is sufficient and how much is a hindrance? I understand and have read that light intensity is a big factor while clones are rooting but have not seen much on a light schedule.

I feel as though 18/6 with floro at 24 inches or so away is fine since you also don't want to encourage the clone to try and flower during this period as well.

I have been doing a lot of reading on photoperiodism in plants and have discovered you can prevent a short day plant such as cannabis from flowering by interrupting the dark cycle it needs. So if you want to reduce light intensity maybe back the light away as to decrease lumens as well as go to 12 hours on and 6 hours off and 6 hours of 10 minutes on 50 minutes off. This will prevent the plant from flowering as well as reduce light and power consumption. Just my 2 cents...

What do most people do in regards to lighting with clones?

INTERESTING. I would worry that the repeated ignition of the bulbs may wear them out quicker? I can see the logic in it though, since they go off the dark hours not the light hours. hmmmm
My dome is 8" tall and I keep the light about 4" above that, its not clear its "clearish" lol

Re: Hydro Grow: California Orange Bud

Sorry for jacking the thread msfox.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing about the on/off but thats what I read that some indoor gardeners do to prevent flowering "efficiently". Was just throwing it out there.

I plan on experimenting with the 21:36/12 method if/when my clones are ready. 5 days/nights in 1 earth week for the flowering phase. See if I can push the yields in more time and if the plant will hold up and produce for the extra time.
