You would think with an LED you could have the light closer. How much heat does that thing put out...Cant be much right?

I can, I have had it down to two inches above the plant and it stayed at 85.. They seem to like it better when it is a foot or so above. I am going to raise it higher in a few days and see what happens. I am just trying to see how the lights and plants interact and see what happens with the light at different heights..

I just talked to a pal about your light.
He is a gaffer and a light rigger for a local theater and
although he doesn't grow, he knows a lot about different
kind of lights
.
He told me that most lights (especially LED's) have focal points
where the light is most intense and that you can easily find that point
if you have a light meter of some sort. He suggested you point the
light at a white area and move it different distances and try to measure
the light pattern to determine it's brightest point. I dunno if ya have a light meter,
but I know you have a new camera, so maybe you could utilize that to the same effect ?

I dunno, just figured it was a tidbit of Info you may be able to use.

Thank you Run for the info. I do have a little cheapie light reader that I will break out and check some readings on some distances...I have just been keeping an eye on them and letting them tell me if they are happy or not. I will check with the meter.. Thanks again Run, much appreciated...

OK, update time. Still cruising along, they seemed to have enjoyed the nutes and are picking up the pace a little bit.. The comparison is with the same plant as last time. the little ones are in one gallon pots and the bigger one is in a 3 gal. so here they are on day 18.

Well, they are growing but clearly not competing with the MH lamp. Being it takes 70+ days to bud, perhaps you have enough time to use the LED during the veg phase. That would save you some money in the long run.

Looks great man! Ive been thinking about getting some LED panels to add some extra spectrum. But now I want a couple of those things man..

The intention was to get this for veg, so that I wouldn't have to add anymore lights and my two 400's could be dedicated to the flowering room. I am going to transplant the LED plants into three gallon pots and see how they compare. I am impressed with the tight stacks the LED is producing. The one in the three gal is 11 days older ( thought it was a week older but I was wrong). I would really like to do a head to head same, strains with a 400 MH and the LED. We will have to see how they keep doing over the next few weeks. I still haven't decided if I am going to flower with the LED or not.
I would have to try to steer people away from the panels, IMO they suck big time!!!
My light meter does not read lumens... It is a 1-10 scale. If I didn't spend so much money on lights I could afford a good one.. I will get some distance measurements this weekend...
The babies seem to be doing well they should be getting their second dose of nutes here soon... Thanks for all the comments and intrest and keep the suggestions and ideas coming.. The light is still @ 14 ", think I am going to move it up to 20 to see what happens...

Oh, sorry. I didn't realize the larger plant was older. I was thinking we were comparing LED to MH.

In that case, that lamp looks like it might be the ticket for vegging.

How much heat would you say it produces, compared with your 400W MH? I'd imagine a whole lot less?

I want some of what he is smoking... Harry, there is no comparison, it would be so nice when they perfect these. If this runs my veg room then I will have to pump warm air over to the veg room to help keep it warm. I would only need one fan to bring in fresh air. It has perked my interest in it..

OK, we are @ three weeks young today... The nutes have kicked in and they are doing really good. The growth, the stems are getting thick, they just seem all around HAPPY...

I'd call that pretty good growth in 1 weeks time. Nice
