What kind of camera are you using? Got some nice close-ups yourself! Depending on the model and if it supports the following ability I have a tip for you and others who take yellow-tinted pics due to the flowering lights (yellow isn't my favorite color haha)...all mine are taken under 2700K CFL's with a Canon S3 IS Power Shot (it's about 3 years old) as well but you'd never know it from my pics
![]() A lot of people aren't too keen on taking pics on a mode other than "auto" but it's worth playing around, after all it's not like the old days when you had to pay to develop film if you didn't know someone with a dark room lol. Here's how it works on my camera, yours may be similar: I set my camera to "Program" mode (not sure why it's called that), it's basically "Auto" but allows me to use my macro and super macro settings as well as tweak white balance, exposure, flash delay, and a few other things. Basically gives me control over everything except the F-stop and the shutter speed. But I digress... Find your "White Balance" settings option in your camera menu and set it to "Manual", don't use any of the presets especially if you are at home! The colors may look all funky through the viewfinder but that's because you need to calibrate it. It's really easy, all you need to do is find something white, point your camera at it so it fills most of the viewfinder, press the "Set" button, and PRESTO! Now your camera knows what white is supposed to look like and adjusts its internal settings to compensate. You may need to check your manual for specific instructions for your camera but that's it in a nutshell, hope it made sense. Now next time you take pics under your flowering lights bring a white sheet of paper with you (or a T-shirt, I often wear a white t-shirt while hiking just for that purpose lol, or anything that is white) and set your white balance under the grow lights. When you take your pics they should show up without the yellow-tint and more true to what they would look like under "regular" lighting. If that doesn't make sense let me know and I'll try to explain it better, kind of rushing as dinner is ready :P I think I'll post this in my journal as well and maybe in a new thread in another subforum later tonight when I get a minute.

Thanks LN, I think I got it. My camera is a Fuji FinePix S700 with 10x zoom and 7.1 mega pix. it has a manual setting that includes incadecent light and three settings for fluorescent light, I never knew it had that. I have to mess with it more to see what else it does, I don't know where that manual is anymore but I just may find it later. Thanks again for the tech support!

You're welcome :) Those pics look pretty darn yummy! The couple of Fujis I've messed with seemed to be pretty good cameras, try Fuji's website for a PDF of the manual if you can't find yours and really want to read it.

Hey all, I took a trip to town and picked up some Dist. water, 70% Isopropyl alcohol, Adirondack Seltzer, 12 jiffy pots made of Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss, Stainless steel 5" shears and a rapitest soil check. I am gonna sit on this stuff for a little while until my ph problem is working itself out.
I was wondering about how I was gonna go about fixing my ph problem since it had become a problem, and from all the web surfing I did, I came to the conclusion that I had no real option but to use the dolomite at 1 tsp. per gallon of soil. So I took 2 liters of Distilled water (pH of 6.0) and added 8 oz. of my soft tap water (pH of 7.6 or +) which made it to 7.0. After messing with the measurements I was thinking why did I pay to get the pH up and down if I could just adjust it like this.... but I guess I would have to drive downtown for distilled water and all that just seems like allot of work. I did some slow watering with my newly adjusted water on all of the plants and caught the first drops of my run-off and checked the pH. I still have 6.0 or lower, so I kinda knew that already but I just had to check again, I added the dolomite (granular) at 2 tsp. per pot and will do another check next watering about 4 or 5 days from today.

FYI, distilled water should have a pH of 7 (either that or my brain hasn't fully awakened yet lol)...
I could be wrong but I think the dolomite lime is slower acting...hydrated lime is water-soluble (not sure on the dolomite, meant to buy that but mixed them up) and quick acting, oh and potent as hell lol. See what your pH looks like after your next watering just like you mentioned.

Hey LN, I just checked out Crystal Springs web site and it says that pH in Distilled Water is 5-7. I guess it varies from batch to batch. Maybe I am wrong or the pH color card kit that I have been using is a piece of shit like my Burpee, imagine that... two of my pH testers are in cahoots.
I need to check on that hydrated lyme tomorrow. I am going to a bigger town tomorrow so I'll hit a greenhouse or two on the way back. Thanks again for the info.

The color card kit should get you close enough that you can tell if your Burpee is very far off.Quote:
