Re: root bound in hydro?

This is a square pot w/o holes in the bottom or sides? No doubt you have root-bound. Sounds like you used then wrong type of pot for hydro

Re: root bound in hydro?

I have never grown in ebb/flow style before so I am just thinking out loud here:

I think regular black nursery pots may not fill and drain as well as net pots, or no pots at all. My thought is for the nutrient to work into the soil, it has to displace the air first. I think the net pots would allow this to happen more efficiently. Also, I think it would flush your media more effectively on the drain in net pots too. I have seen several ebb and flow tables with plants in 6 x 6 rockwool cubes, just sitting on the table, no pots at all.

But, like I said, ebb and flow is something I have only seen from afar, never done my self.

Good Luck with your grow

Re: root bound in hydro?

Just wondering about how much root space a 3ft plant should have? Does it change from setup to setup?

Re: root bound in hydro?

When I transplanted the roots look good and white. I switched from RO water to my well which comes out at 310 ppm not to bad, better than buying it. I did notice that with ro water the ph does not fluctuate as nearly as much then with my well water. Not sure where u got the six plants pit? I have 4 in there I believe with out going SOG 4 is the max. Anyway the plants look good today - a little nute burn I adjusted the ppm yesterday to 1200 and the like it. I'll post some pics later..

I went with 6 but thats just a suggestion...I have a couple megagardens that are 20"x20" and I put 4 in there and they topped out at 38" each. I would think that the extra 16"x16" would allow 2 more plants but I may be wrong

Re: root bound in hydro?

Sounds like the original poster used regular soil pots for his hydro grow rather than the traditional net pots most of us use. I'd cut the entire pot off and transplant back into the correct bigger net pot if it were me.
