Vacuum seal seeds for long-term storage?

Would it hurt anything if I was to vacuum some seeds to protect them for long-term storage or would that be a bad thing? IOW, do seeds need oxygen to retain their viability during storage?

I've read a bit about storring seeds and vac sealing has never been mentioned. Maybe that's just because it's harder to get just one seed out of the pack that way? (you would have to vac seal it every time you opened it). I've always kept my seeds in a light tight and air tight jar in the bottom of the fridge. I also put silica desiccant in with the seeds to absorb moisture (if you don't have any laying around, you can buy 100 of them for 10 bucks online)
