9 years - Marijuana Conspiracy

I am a prisoner of the war on drugs. This is my first incarceration.
I was convicted in 1996 for possession of 42.5 grams of marijuana seeds and stems with 'intent to deliver'. I was also charged with 'delivery within 1000 feet of a park', 'habitual criminal' status, 'party to a crime', and 'recklessly causing bodily harm to another'. I was given nine years in the Wisconsin prison system for this.

Due to my conviction and incarceration, I am no longer married, I lost custody of my daughter, I lost my home, bank accounts, my car, and all of my personal belongings.

In March of 1999, my father passed away, and I wasn't even notified until a week later! I've lost everything I ever owned, cherished and loved. When I'm finally released I have nothing to return to.

I've completed technical college courses in machine tool operations, blueprint reading and engineering drawing interpretation, as well as various courses in health and drug abuse, anger management and domestic violence. I've done everything I can to educate and rehabilitate myself. Now I'm just looking forward to getting out and rebuilding my life. I know it's going to be hard, but this is one chapter in my life that I never want to experience again. I just hope these feelings of hopelessness, despair and failure can be overcome.
