Please clarify something for me, are we talking about metal grinders in general, or the ones with metal screens in them intended to be keif catchers?
I understand you wish to compare a knock off to a Space Case one, but I am not sure of which exact product your trying to compare.

I have a plastic grinder that does the same thing as a spacecase. I have thought about the plastic comeing off in the kief or the weed. I've never noticed any wear though. I'd imagine that aluminum would be more durable. It is probably fine. I would say use a magnet to take out the metal but aluminum isn't magnetic.

YES metal shavings do start to come off after eventual wear, especially around the little holes the weed has to fall through. In order to help prevent this many big name grinder manufacturers are beginning to annodize their grinders which changes the chemical composition of the metal and makes it MUCH STRONGER as well as looks better. thats about all we can do right now though..
