But do you know how he accomplished making marijuana illegal? There was no clause in existence to allow lawmakers to make marijuana an illegal substance, until they found a loophole. The government made it illegal to posses a machine gun without a "machine gun tax stamp" via the National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA). Only thing was the government wasn't issuing any of these tax stamps. These are the grounds for which making marijuana illegal was built on. Illegal to posses without the appropriate tax stamp, but no stamps being issued, thus effectively making it an illegal substance without major alteration to the law.

And now in a lot of states you need a tax stamp if you possess hamp; if you're caught w/o a stamp they get you for possession as well as tax laws. Having their crappy cake and eating it too.

Asnlinger wasn't the first. When the catholic church first came to power they used liquor or wine, the blood of Christ, for mass and other purposes. When they encountered eastern religions, mainly India, the Church banned the herb that they used for their religious purposes, marijuana. The Church of course, affiliated marijuana with the devil, originating the unjust hatred toward the plant.
