I recently recieved some seeds from a friend in cali as a gift and i was just wondering if it would be a waist of time to start them outside this late?

Depends on where ya' are and the strain.

More than likely, should be okay.

I am in IN...but as far as the strain....not sure because a friend gave me a baggy full of seeds and he said there was like 5-6 different strains in there...he said they were like matanuska thunderfuck...blueberry that has been around since like the 80's...silver purple kush....grapefruit diesel...white widow n i dont remember what the other one was...
