Re: Doob's DP Fem Blueberry!
If it was me, because I like my weed strong with a good couchlock. I would wait til you see a small number of amber trichomes or resin glands. This way you truely know you have achieved full ripeness with hardly any thc degration. It really seems to make a difference.

Re: Doob's DP Fem Blueberry!
Thanks, Urdedpal! I'll do this, and I'm pretty sure by the time I get amber trichomes, at least a few pistils will have turned amber/orange/brown. Like you said, I'll know for sure that the plant has achieved full ripeness when at least a few of the trichomes turn amber.

Re: Doob's DP Fem Blueberry!
Hi, MOTA! It is now day 62 of flowering, and I have initiated the flushing sequence with Advanced Nutrients Final Phase. I will flush for one week, and then I will chop on or around day 69.
![]() As for the smell, it's difficult to describe it. I definitely don't smell lime or berry or any type of fruit. Perhaps the best word to describe the smell is "green," if that makes any sense. I'll make sure to get some pics of the lady before I chop of course! |

Re: Doob's DP Fem Blueberry!
Hello all! I harvested the blueberry yesterday, which turned out to be day 70. She is now slowly drying in a closet (fan included, but not directly blowing on her, of course!) with an average temp of 75F and an average relative humidity of 45%. Pictures from the day of the chop are pending approval. :)
It should be noted that I found around 10 bananas on this girl. Overall, I would not recommend growing DP's femenized blueberry, if you are a novice grower. I'm just lucky that I was able to spot the bananas and snip them away from my girl before they blew their loads! Nasty critters, those male flowers. That said, this was a relatively easy grow. I think anything will be easy after learning the ins and outs of hydroponic growing, though. ![]() Expect a smoke report and more pictures around one week from today! Edit: To update the smell report, I noted a heavy fragrance of pine after I chopped her. It reminded me of relaxing under a Christmas tree. This scent of pine is odd considering more than one poster has noted lime scents. We'll see if this "blueberry" lives up to its name. |

Re: Doob's DP Fem Blueberry!
Nice buds you got there dude,is that little purple on those buds? I also see a lot of white hairs on them not a lot of orange/brown. You know i still havent heard someone say that the buds smell like berries, wonder why...i heard they have to be toped in order for them to reach full ripness.

Re: Doob's DP Fem Blueberry!
Hey, man. Yeah, lots of white pistils...it had me worried because all of the trichomes were milky-white/opaque, and there were only a few brown pistils. I chose to chop using the resin glands as my guide, and I've decided that pistil color truly has nothing to do with the proper time for harvest. As Akorn has noted, the colors of the pistils merely indicates that the time for ripeness is near.
Edit: I noted small hints of purple...that's interesting! |

Re: Doob's DP Fem Blueberry!
Thanks, mate! Next time I will attempt to improve my picture-taking skills and include more views of the entire plant. I just love taking macros, though. :)
Everyone stay tuned for a smoke report soon! And watch out for my yet-to-be-posted mid-flowering report on Dutch Passion's Femenized Power Plant. ![]() |

Re: Doob's DP Fem Blueberry!
Thanks for the reassurance, beensmokin! I can already validate your statement because I see the pistils turning colors as they dry. I wonder if the blueberry will cure to "shades of lavender" as marketed by Dutch Passion.

Re: Doob's DP Fem Blueberry!
Can I make a suggestion here. So many growers are so keen to harvest that they hang on that old adage of harvesting when 75% of pistils have turned brown. Fuck that! Wait till ALL your pistils have turned brown. There is no dimunition of potency to do this, and your yield and quality of smoke will increase profoundly. That's why I always let my flowers go the extra 10 days - just as Arjan from Greenhouse recommends.
In that extra 10 days, the plant does an amazing transition. All the calyxes swell as if they were seeded, and resin production is maximal. The buds ripen. Picking plants when 75% of pistils are brown is like picking a green Jonathon apple and expecting it to taste like a red apple. Let your fruit ripen my friend. I know this goes against conventional thinking, but trust me, you will never go back once you have seen "ripe" buds. |

Re: Doob's DP Fem Blueberry!
Excellent! I'll test it out with my power plant, which will be ready shortly. :)
Good to hear, berrydizzle! I checked out the buds, and they look quite silverish with all the trichomes. Reminds me of super silver haze somewhat. Last edited by 420; 10-17-2008 at 10:19 PM. |
