The BEST solution I've found yet is good ole BT.

Bacillus Thuringlensis Brand Name: Thuricide Concentrate

This is a concentrated, naturally occurring, Bacillus that only affects worms and caterpillars that nosh on your favorite plants. Not harmful to humans, bees, dogs, or even little kittens.

How it works: BT is not a poison in the usual sense. The worms/caterpillars ingest the spores of the BT while eating green material that has been sprayed with it.

The spores set up shop in the worms innards and lock it down. I forget if they can't digest anymore, or can't poop, but they die. I've been using it for over 30 years and just don't remember the exact dynamics.

The nicest thing about it, besides not being harmful, is that it rinses right off if you have to apply it during flower. Of course, if it rains, you will need to re apply if you still see worms.

As a rule though, only about 3 treatments are needed for the entire season, from seed to harvest. YMMV
