Re: Miracle-Gro Organic Soil?

Yeah I've used miracle organic but I only have tried it for tomatoes and other vegetables. Just my opinion but I would pay more for fox farm ocean forest. The miracle grow soil I had I think had insect eggs in it because my indoor potted plants were infested with gnats when I repotted them.

Re: Miracle-Gro Organic Soil?

With any organic there is always a chance of bugs, that's the risk we take :-)

Re: Miracle-Gro Organic Soil?

Fox farm 0cean Forest is what I use. Never had a bug infestion from it yet. The cheap crap from the hardware store however, gave me fungus gnats. Took me a couple weeks to irradicate them from my room.

Re: Miracle-Gro Organic Soil?

I was gonna add that gnats are mostly caused by fungus. At least that's what I have seen here :-)

Re: Miracle-Gro Organic Soil?

I have half of my plants planted in MG organic and the other half in FF organic. I did have a few battles with gnats in the early stages but they have not returned in two weeks. I think they were in one of the soils because they appeared in the first week of growth. All the plants seem to be doing the about the same, No big difference in the growth between the two soils. I guess we will see if the finished product varies from the two soils..

Re: Miracle-Gro Organic Soil?

if you intend to grow organically, be sure to get a good source for your soil . properly composted organic soil should not contain any live insects or their eggs. it's like the dog food companies; they sell shit that is just barely good enough to keep your plants alive. i have a large organic food garden. 15 acres cultivated. the staples of my additives are good old bone meal and chicken shit. i give the soil a good healthy dose of enzimes then i kick back and watch the blue ribbons roll in at the fall fair. if you live in a house, get a back yard composter and use that mixed equally with sand and peat. great stuff!

Re: Miracle-Gro Organic Soil?

im using miracle gro and i didnt like it at first, but my plant is doing great, its about a month and a half old about a foot tall and VERY wide and bushy, i just cropped the top about 4 inches so ima keep it in veg for another 3 or 4 weeks then switch to flowering. bugs i have not really had any problems with at all, i have one little gnat critter that likes to hag out but thats it. i named him G. he just chills on the leaves under the lights. but my plant is VERY healthy and grows at a crazy fast rate.

It's funny, but I had a gnat hanging around for a LONG time. Just one. It was weird :-)

Aren't you supposed to ruthlessly annihilate any motherfucking bugs you find around your darlings? I smash em' flat and hang their little flat pancaked lifeless bodies on a tiny cross made out of splintered toothpick shards so that when any of their little friends come looking for them they catch a glimpse of their impending doom if they don't split quick.

No. Not all bugs are bad for a garden. Spiders (real spiders not spider mites) are great for gardens. They eat just about any insect alive that is smaller than them. Lady bugs are great for aphids and then there are predator insects that you can buy to control infestations by their cousins.lol Certain bugs have a place in the garden. Gnats are not one of these though and should be squashed, smashed and destroyed to ones best ability.
