Re: High Pressure Metal Halide.. Is this for real?

I just heard back from John. Here is the answer from Hortilux.

Dear Mark,
I have your answer better explained by Mr. Anderson of EYE Lighting, who is my rep for Hortilux.
If you ever need anything else, please feel free to contact me and I will do my very best in getting you the correct answer.
Thanks again Mark!

Subject: RE: Dual Arc HPS - MH Bulb - Hortilux

Hello John,

The output of our Super Blue (dual arc) lamp is 110,000 lumens and consumes 1100 watts with a suggested retail price of $219.95.

Considering that you only need one system to operate this lamp (1000W HPS System) we believe it makes economic sense versus buying two systems and two lamps.

The output of a Hortilux Blue lamp (400W) is 29,000 lumens, suggested retail price of $99.95

The output of a Hortilux HPS lamp (600W) is 88,000 lumens, suggested retail price of $117.95

Using two systems (400 Metal halide and 600 HPS), they consume roughly 1100 watts of energy and deliver 117,000 lumens (88K + 29K).

Overall, the light output and spectral quality is very similar, however the blending of the light is far superior with our Super Blue (dual arc) lamp.

I hope this helps you.

Best Regards,

Michael A. Anderson, LC

Well, that was nice of them.. Doesn't tell me a single thing about HPMH, but it's interesting!

Re: High Pressure Metal Halide.. Is this for real?

Someone was talking about the CRI before, its not important for grow lights, as CRI refers to how well the light source maintains the original colour of the things that its lighting. So if your plant looks really green or slightly purple under the light, this makes no difference, to how much light the plants absorbing, focus on the colour of the actual light, do you get red or blue at the most delicious wavelength or not.
I'm biased, but hey here goes, forget the HID, HPMH, HPS etc go for LEDs, sit down with a calculator and figure out how much money you will save on the electricity, it will blow you away, also you'll have environmentally friendly weed, Happy days

I have 2 MH 400 watters on order, both will use the 400w version of these bulbs. Funny thing, the bulbs were more then the 2 400 watt lamps. So far cheapest I have found are 75 bucks each. I only paid 50 each for the MH lamps :-)

You've seen the results of my grow. Thats under 2 400w HPS from Home Depot at $21.95. I have a grower friend who swears however he did a side by side grow... Home Depot basic bulb, and Hortilux Super HPS and got 15% more outta the Hortilux.

Re: High Pressure Metal Halide.. Is this for real?

My main reason is just to add spectrum, so maybe I will just get one, and use cheap ones in the other. I will have LED's in there too, so I won't miss the reds much. I found some cheap MH lamps, so I may as well use em :-) I always thought 2 400w lamps was best for my type of grow, I just didn't think it was feasible economically.

Re: High Pressure Metal Halide.. Is this for real?

I hear ya man... I'm half on the market for a couple 200w MH myself. I'd like to go to a total of 1200 watts, and adding some blue spectrum would be nice.

I'm biased as well. Forget the LED's until they have been proven. So far every person I've known who have used them has been extremely disappointed with the results. Most say they work alright for veg growth but truly suck for flower growth. Until they get cheaper and more effective they should only e used as supplemental lighting in conjunction with a HID. Yes they conserve energy but that's a moot point if they don't grow weed worth a crap!

Just my opinion.

Re: High Pressure Metal Halide.. Is this for real?

I think if I doubled the number I had (Per sqaure foot) I would have had equal results. But I can't expect 90 watts of LED (at this stage) to perform even like 250watts of CFL, let alone 400w hps :-)

Re: High Pressure Metal Halide.. Is this for real?

sounds like high pressure MH is same or very similar to CMH[ ceramic metal halide

some new light co ?[ advanced tech lighting.com [[some variant of this
]] was terlling me that that STandard HPS Ballasts ie S51 for 400watt
will work for these bulbs CMH burt electronics won't at this time

but that electrionic ballasts for CMH would be out soon this was a couple months ago

check out phillips lighting's web sites
