Double Harvest

I did a search for Double harvest on the search Page , there was not one mention of it, or showed up for me in any event.

I will tell you right now double harvest can MORE then double your harvest total.

I used a 450w HPS on a light rail over 6 plastic laundry sinks , with the drains plumbed into a overflow.

After 8 weeks of flower I harvest the top Colas / end buds which removes 1/2 the plant exposing the bottom half and its mess of tiny white haired premature Buds for a 2nd grow.

To do this After I harvest the top half of the Plant I fertilize with a a nitrogen rich fertilizer (even 20-20-20 will work) then lower the light rail and start Blooming. I say start Blooming because the Plants are now in a 2nd stage of survival , after losing its top half it goes mad to finish maturing the bottom half.

A common number for me would be 6 or 7 ounces from the first harvest with around 11 ounces from the 2nd harvest for a total of about 1 lb

the 2nd harvest takes 6 weeks to complete but its worth it.

insider tip - I flip the light back to 18 hrs for the first week of the 2nd harvest , it seems to encourage vigor I will also pound it with 24hr light cycles at will.

Yup you are just revegging the plant momentarily then forcing it to flower. I've done it and the extra time will produce more if you just ran another cycle.

I am going to do it with my first LED crop I have on the grow now , although I will not reveg for 1 week and will harvest the 2nd set of buds 2-3weeks after the first harvest (if the buds maturity allow)

I will call it a extended harvest when i post my results. I am shooting for 1.5g per watt as a new personal best if not local record.

i always used my HPS about 3" yes 3 inches from the tops of the plant while on the light mover, My LED lights will get the same treatment. No light loss will be tolerated at all.

Here is some food for thought for some of you who use a extended light distance as a means to grow your garden

Light height can be denying your plants of about 75% of the available light energy. At 6 inches your good to go , at 1ft you just lost half the light output add 1 more foot and you just lost half of that half power of light energy you are now at 2.5 feet and effectively using about 25% of the original light energy.
It Pains me to see people grow like this , and most do ! even the apparent pro's (ehem) in the commercial grows.

Many big time growers will only get 1/4 gr per watt sadly but easily as you can just keep adding lights until you start growing healthy plants. I talked to one guy who used 29 1,000w lights for 10 lbs of pot ?? who argued with me over light distance and his Superior knowledge as a Professional grower - not all professional growers are created alike , some of them should actually look for a new line of work especially when they are corrupting a businesses product output with their imagined wealth of knowledge.

Distance to the plants matters if Grams per watt is the goal, but one will grow fine with a massive amount of lights hung 2 and 3 feet above your plants.

That's a great ratio Dutty P, I am going to be flowering under a true 450-500w of LED watts for the first time this grow.
I suspect if You used Led panels your gpW would increase to 1.25 or better, if kept low :peace:

I am thinking my two (combined 450 to 500 true watt) LED panels will produce 350 or 400 gr without the double harvest added in yet.

I was using a 450w HPS on a light rail so I will be comparing the 2 same wattage output between the 2 lights.

I am reading of people getting 25 to 50% increases in their gpW ratios. It makes sense once you read up on the LED ability to output much more energy in useable light , unlike HID lights which waste a large portion of its watt energy on light spectrum's the plants can't use.
To our eyes the HID *appear* brighter they are not , they are "less" effective watt to watt at outputting light energy the plants can use,as compared to the LED Panels. True story

Its nice having the wattage spread out over 2 LED panels , another bonus of the LED panel lights , for my Small grow purposes anyways..

Sounds good but I think led technology still a Lil behind nothing beats a hortilux bulb. They produce the most lumens multiple studies done. I do think led is close though. It would be great if you started a journal so we could follow. Good luck.

Like they say if it aint broke don't fix it , your doing fine with your harvest % as is , no need to go gambling on a new system. Maybe one Day you will need a New light , given you a chance to try out a LED panel, you may find having even one of them useful. Great fill lights really as you could hang them sideways if desired with no danger of leaf burn etc.

I will start my Journal once the seedlings grow up at least 1 ft. , they went under the led 10 days ago today , after a week under the florescence tubes. Runty little things they are.

I will document the grow for sure , see what can be done with the apparent benefits of the led panels.
So far I am taking notes with dates and procedures etc.

I am very hopeful haha.

What's with the reference to lesbians ? Makes me think you have lesbians on your mind from much to much internet porn , what gives ? also curious what LED panel you ended up buying ?

I hate it when the truth is stranger then fiction ... lol

I am waiting with bated breath

Although I welcome any and all lesbians ... why not

DrewDrop , I will start my Journal when my plants gain a respectable size , right now they are seedlings , 5 Afghan plants.

For me , i have no interest in posting photo's of seedlings and tiny plants, embarrassing really although cute..

Haha , I think I jumped to conclusion much to quickly , lol.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
thanks for the Welcome , I am enjoying the site , and peoples journals I will add some good content when things get rolling.
In my automated 2x4x6 plywood grow cabinet.
I looked at your LED panel , 133 led , quite similar to the 300w (180w) Mars&Hydro old style (they call it) that I have over my 5.
I am still waiting for two 144 led panels to arrive , not that I need them at the moment.
No worries, my phone was making some assumptions of its own :winkyface:
I love this site. Ive seen every other grower forum out there and :420: is by far the best.
I sent an email to the company asking for an actual draw watt on the light, i havent heard back but im assuming its somewhere around 200 because its a cheaper brand. I would have loved to have gotten a sponsored led but I just dont have the cash right now.
