I have been curing in jars for about a week now. I still have somewhat of a hay smell, even after hanging for a week in 70 degrees with 40% humidity. I trimmed all of the remaining leaves off the buds and put in jars...12 hours sealed in darkness, then 1 hour laid out, then repeated. I did this for about a week. The hay smell remains, and the stems still arent snapping clean.
Am I doing something wrong? How do I tell when the curing is complete? |

Smoking is really the best test. You don't want stems brittle, just enough to snap when you bend them over. Sometimes the hay smell comes from over drying. I genearally hang mine for a week and then transfer to either jars or bags and burp them for an hour or so a day for a week and then you can just either vacumm seal them or keep them sealed till ready to use. They will actually get better and mellower with age, up to about 6 months or so.
