Another interesting thoughts to its legalization- Near the end of World War 1 several major wood-pulp paper industry companys such as Du Pont had an interest in artificial plastics and fibers. So they began pouring millions into research- which lead to the discovery of fibers such as rayon and nylon- conveniently right after the "hemp tax" (which was $2,000 an ounce) rayon and nylon were introduced to the market right on hemp's new taxes- Du pont had even assured congress and the treasury department that hemp-seed oils could be replaced with synthetic petrochemical oils.

The AMA(American medical association) actually fought for the legalization and de-taxation of Marijuana but it didn't matter against power figures like Anslinger, Hearst, and Andrew Mellon.

A Final fact while all the paranoid propaganda was spreading about hemp it actually saved the life of a young pilot serving his country while fighting a battle over the pacific. The aircraft was lubricated with hemp-seed oil. The rigging, Parachute fabrics, Ropes, emergency firehoses on the aircraft were all woven with hemp and safely, securely did their job in saving his life while he jumped ship.

Another motivation for the fact that marijuana is illegal, imho, is blind ambition and racism. Anslinger was, based on what I have read was only kind of a low level politician before he founded the DEA. Supposedly they pretty much had the C*ke and Her*in thing under control. So how can he make a big name for himself, if he has no major problems to solve. So when the meeting that you mentioned with the big corporations occured, he decided to make Cannabis Sative illegal, create the panic, and then solve the problem. Back then it was mostly Mexicans smoking it, white middle class people didn't know about it, and they were the main voters. So Anslinger didn't care that he was putting down, treating like trash, a whole country of people. It was his ticket to the top.

Then he realized that there aren't a lot of Mexicans in the Eastern Cities. But black jazz musicians were smoking weed. And who cares about black people anyways. So places like NOLA, NYC, StL, Chicago and others that have big jazz scenes were gripped with a fever of crazy black stoned jazz musicians. If you look at really, really old jazz, several songs are about the ganj.

So he needed a way to get the word out. Again, Racism and bling ambition stepped in in the form of William Randolph Hearst. Anything to sell newspapers. And Mexicans can't speak English and most of the black people can't read, so they won't know. What a beautiful, wicked plan. But it was ok cause Hearst needed to increase those newspaper sales, baby.

To the guy who made up the poster to print out about hemp; I LOVE it. The problem though is that most places require approval before allowing you to post something, and I don't know if they would approve of something basically illegal (Even if it is STOOPID that it's illegal.)

The problem up here in SW Ontario is a bunch of farmers got ll gung-ho over Hemp and started to produce it. When it came time to honour a contract with a company out of California, the border guards on the american side stopped the shipment, held things up so long and generally was a big pain in the butt, that the farmers ended up losing a lot of money. They are now Hemp-shy. It is too bad that the US had to screw up a good thing up here. if w had an infrastructure to process the hemp here, there wouldnot have been any problem, but this area was just starting to put out test plots, so we had no way of using this fine product. Farmers out west have started up a big business and they know that if the border guards pull that same stunt, they would just turn around and sell it elsewhere in Canada. Canada is still not that far ahead. It was only a few years back that it was illegal to even wear hemp in Canada. I think things ould have changed much faster, but on the other hand I think we have come a long way. We are doing it on many fronts in the legal system, getting rulings that are favourable. Technically Marijuana is legal but that is still being held up in appeals courts and justice ministers not wanting to take on some of these cases. Then we have Marc Emery... nuff said

I'm not sure where you're going with this...

From what I have seen, Farmers get pushed around more than anyone. Monsanto, a corporation that actually patented the genetics of certain produce (which is illegal), steamrolled over farmers in court cases and destroyed good farmers business. Under completely preposterous and illegal circumstances I might add...

The goverment consistently favors the money making corporations, just like the article says. The only reason our "government" allows this nonsense is because the United States is technically a corporation itself.

No doubt we have to let EVERYONE know, I just dont see farmers as the answer.

All of these major decisions are made behind closed doors and it slides by because people dont have a good idea of who and what these leaders and organizations really are. Too many people accept the propoganda without asking questions.

I figure that people in the know should put out their own form of propoganda, the TRUTH. If people running corporations (i.e. government) can do it with lies, all we the people have to do is set forth the facts and it should snowball with much less effort.

The result is everyone being in the know and all the dirty schemes cant go by unnoticed...

farmers are the ones who could change, they are the ones who buys the modified seeds ,the altered seeds that have nasty chemicals and fertilizers. Reduce yields and put nothing back into the soil... so yes farmers are the ones who take loans, buy these seeds from DUPONT and DOW, because now, there are no genuine seeds left, DUPONT has tainted them forever. Farmers do have the power to make informed decisions.
