eventually the roots will fill up the red bucket, for me it is rare to have the drip rings clog, just make sure you chek em daily, and they are dripping, more often than not the air tube in the bottom gets clogged and doesnt allow air to feed the solution , then you have a dead plant.

wow the feedback was amazing and appreciate all the comments. I decided to stick with soil growing over the last year for a number of reasons but am finally ready to go to hydro. I think I'm going to go with a 12 site ebb and flow system since I was able to get a little experience with those over the last year through some friends, I really like what they have to offer. I was without home internet service since Jan 2009 so apologize for falling completely off. I plan to stick around this time as well as create a grow log. cheers

I used the Water Farm for 4 grows. I too had lots of trouble with the tubes plugging up with salts, when I used all organics the drip tubes plugged up with slimey matter. I just got the Ebb and Grow system and am hoping to avoid all the problems I had with the Water Farm system. good luck

check out:
http://www.420magazine.com/forums/jo...200-watts.html the more i think about it the more i think I'm going to do a bigger version of something like this. Seems to provide the most yield for what you put into it. I say that from the dozens of journals I've read using similar techniques and this one consistently seems to give a bit more. someone please chime in if you feel otherwise. |

I have been thinking about a better way to flush these individual buckets, each bucket is left with an inch of nutes after draining the res, so, i use a shut off valve in each section of hose, shut them off when changing then, replace the bucket either remove it and wash it or put in a new clean one. ALso, I have found the roots get toxic residues, I use a ph'd pray bottle and powerwash the residue off the roots, the plants love it.

That is a good idea with the valve, I drain as much as I can till it quits coming back to the resevoir then rinse each and suck the rest out with my wet dry vac ,I will try the root spraying this sounds good

I actually did a comparison and I challenge you to build a Waterfarm module for less than the $30 dollars you can find them for on the internet. Even with shipping it's, its still a great price vs. building it. |

Hey and by the way I just finished reading the entire "nest", freaking awesome job dude. I can't believe that journal flew under my radar for so long. It's almost scary how many factors the two of us have in common as far as size and location of grow space, funding for it, and a general passion for doing it all the best it can be done. As I've said before this will be my first hydro grow 100% on my own. I've grown >100 plants in soil for almost 15 years and after getting a little experience with ebb and flo this summer with a few pals, would like to jump in head first. Not to mention I am completely out of the large grow opp business, for good!! The biggest thing that scares me about hydro is the Nutes formula; the cost as well as getting the mixture correct. Aside from nutes I feel confident growing plants and tending to the needs of a larger grow opp. I've been considering what system to use for almost a year now and have gone back and forth several times and for several different reasons each time. I think after all the consideration of cost, what will work in my space and also where my interests lead me, I will go with an Ebb and Flo system. Pit I note in your journal you mention the system being pushed to its limitations by the use of 20 sites? Would you mind sharing your thoughts in detail? Its funny that they advertise that system to hold up to 48 sites off only a 55 gal reservoir, seems obvious just from that information, that it wouldn't work all that great but I guess people will believe anything they read. Pit the reason I ask is bc I have room for about 20-30 flowering plants in my new room and was thinking 20 sites would be a great place to start. Thanks in advance for all the input on this subject since I started this thread almost a year ago. I think January will be the beginning of this deal once and for all, and will of course journal it all for those interested. Cheers |
