old, never used soil

Is it a good idea to use old soil if its never used. I had some left over from my first grow that I bought about 4 months ago and I recently planted some new plants in it, but it seems like it dries out to quick. Has anyone every encountered this? Its fox farm ocean forest fyi. thanks

well should i try to transplant them into new soil or would that even worse for the little babes? They are about 10 days old.
