High-Flying Police Operation Helps Nab Pot Grower

GATESVILLE - A Coryell County man is in police custody after officers in a DPS helicopter spotted a marijuana plant growing in his backyard.

David Don Bradley, 30, was arrested Monday on charges of possession of marijuana in a school free zone as a result of the high flying police operation.

Acting on a tip, Gatesville Police and Coryell County deputies called on Department of Public Safety pilots to help fly over the county to help spot suspected pot farmers.

As the helicopter flew over Gatesville, deputies onboard spotted a marijuana plant growing in the backyard of a house on the 100 block of Elm Street. As they watched the house from above, deputies say a man cut the plant down, tried to hide it and got into his car and sped off.

Officers stopped the car and identified Bradley as the driver. Officers found a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia while searching his car.

At the same time his car was being searched, officers descended upon Bradley's house where they found two marijuana plants.

Bradley is charged with Possession of Marijuana over 4 Ounces but Under 5 Pounds, in a Drug Free Zone, which is a 3rd Degree Felony.

Bradley's home is within 1000 feet of a nearby school.

I have to say I loving visiting the states, its a fantastic country full of open freindly people. but your police/govt seem to actively go after there own citizens. why in Gods name would you throw such resources into finding home growers, you think cra*ck dealers & scum who do harm to children should be top of the list.

buddy of mine was smokin with his girlfriend in a parking lot, behind a bar, at 1 oclock in the morning, and got the 1000ft law slammed on him. saddest part is, they were visiting her brother and he didnt know there was a school nearby

Crazy, isn't it? I think they feel they can (and do) get away with it because of all the 'freedoms' we supposedly have. I guess they feel it's a fair trade off.

Our government is so paranoid about a citizen uprising that they have to take active measures, such as busting this dangerous cultivator of TWO plants, to keep the rebellious uprising in check. As long as they pluck the feathers of the fringe elements and placate the masses, they remain in power and deny counterculture movements any momentum. The best analogy I can think of is like we live in a giant insane asylum where they're giving everyone thorazine. Free thinkers are the danger, here.

California actually has a bit of sanity in their 1000 foot drug free zone in that it excludes the privacy of people's homes. If your 4 plants are inside there's no possible school zone violation even without a rec. It doesn't work that way everywhere.

I hate to say it but Obama nor any other politician will ever do anything about it. The president does not run the country he is simply a face.. the real people that are running it are the faceless unelected bureaucrats that jam pack themselves into any administration thats in power. It is simply up to the people to demand their rights be restored.

How much did it cost to bust 1 plant?that helicopter isnt cheap to fly! People its all about the Money.

It"s just another stat that the police can use to show that they've removed a dangerous felon from our midst.The details will be lost and it will look like they took a drug dealer out of a school zone.How many places are not within 1000 feet of a school?The law is truly an ass.
