A 43-year-old man was arrested Saturday after allegedly stealing 15 pounds of medical marijuana, Merced police reported.

Steven Watkins was taken into custody after police investigated a commercial burglary in the unit block of West 23rd Street, according to Lt. Tom Trindad.

Watkins allegedly broke into storage units, stealing the medical marijuana out of one unit. The victim learned Watkins had allegedly stolen the medical marijuana and met with him in the parking lot of a local motel.

When Watkins attempted to leave, he was physically detained and the police were called. Officers arrived and tracked down the stolen marijuana. Watkins admitted to police he'd stolen the pot, but didn't admit to breaking into the other storages units, according to Trindad.

He was booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of burglary and possession of stolen property.
