The Washington state Liquor Control Board has licensed a second legal pot shop in Seattle. Spokesman Mikhail Carpenter said Thursday that Uncle Ike's, in the city's Central District, received its retail marijuana license this week. It joins Cannabis City south of downtown, which has been doing business since early July as the city's only recreational pot store.
Statewide, the liquor board has issued about 60 pot shop licenses, but as of early this month only 32 had reported sales. Some haven't been ready to open and others have had trouble getting marijuana to sell because of a shortage of licensed growers – a shortage that officials say is easing as more harvest. Uncle Ike's owner Ian Eisenberg told seattlepi he intends to open for business on Tuesday. Since sales began July 8, stores have reported $16 million in sales and collected $4 million in state excise taxes.
