A bill has been filed that will change Tennessee law to allow the use of cannabis oil for medical purposes.

Also known as House Bill 197, the cannabis oil bill will help children like Josie Mathes. The 11-month-old Greene County girl suffers from seizures, that medications can't seem to help.

Tennessee House Representative Jeremy Faison, who's sponsoring this bill. sat down with the Department of Safety, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Health this week.

He says they've all agreed to be neutral on this topic and they're all satisfied with the final draft of the bill which allowed him to introduce the Cannabis oil bill on Monday morning.

The Mathes family believes Cannabis oil will help with Joise's repeated seizures, however it's not legal in the state of Tennessee.

Faison says he's very passionate about helping families, like the Mathes', and believes the bill has a strong chance of passing.

"The only thing we have to work on now is my colleagues and making sure they realize this is not medical marijuana," he said. "I want viewers to understand this is a Cannabis oil us for children who are having seizures that could potentially save their life."

He says the oil is very safe and has only .9% of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) the mind-altering ingredient found in Cannabis.

Faison asked state Senator Becky Duncan Massey to carry the bill in the senate.
