Colorado: Governor Signs Dispenary Welfare Ban Into Law

Measures to ban the use of welfare cards at pot shops have been signed into law in Colorado.

Gov. John Hickenlooper signed two bills Friday to add marijuana businesses and strip clubs to the list of Colorado businesses where electronic benefits cards - called EBTs - can't be used to withdraw cash.

Liquor stores, casinos and gun shops already have such limitations.

Marijuana industry groups and the state agency that administers welfare supported the welfare limit.

Previous attempts to forbid use of the cards in pot shops failed because of concerns that the pot-shop ATMs may be closer than banks in some neighborhoods. But opposition evaporated this year after numerous reports of the benefits cards being used in marijuana dispensaries.

Such paranoia. So what about people that were just using the ATM as a convenience to get cash and never spent the cash in the dispensary? Not to mention that if you are on welfare you pretty much don't have money for anything fun in your life, its not fun at all. This bill is just the projection of rich assholes that can't stand the fact that some people need help and see it as their personal war against people sucking money from their pockets. What about the feelings of the people on welfare? What about their liberties? Why should they be targeted and restricted from the same conveniences as any other citizen! Why is it that people have these misplaced angers toward homeless and welfare needy, disabled? How absolutely insane is this attitude!
