The state Health Department is expected to hand out five licenses today to organizations that want to dispense medical marijuana.
Many of the proposed locations are in the Capital Region.
One of them could be here in Clifton Park, where two zoning districts have been created where medical marijuana dispensaries could locate. Both are near Route 9 and the Northway.
In Glenville they want a dispensary in the Glenville Technology and Business Park.
Forty-three organizations around the state have filed for one of the five licenses
Medical marijuana will be used to help treat diseases like cancer, AIDS, epilepsy and ALS.
Whoever wins the licenses will be able to dispense marijuana pills, liquids or vapors to treat medical conditions. Smokable or edible products will not be allowed.
Dispensing is expected to start next year.
