The Flandreau Santee Sioux tribe is blazing the trail for recreational marijuana use.

The tribe is the first in the country to legalize marijuana in a state where the drug is illegal.

In less than 90 days the tribe is getting ready to open the doors to their dispensary and lounge, where it will be legal to buy and use marijuana.

The tribe is getting ready to go where no other tribe has gone before, by legalizing marijuana use on the reservation.

While the tribe is getting a lot of attention for this, tribal leaders say it's not all about recreational use.
The tribe will also be offering medical marijuana.

The substance will only be legal to purchase and use at the smoking lounge.

A large portion of the building will be set up like a night club or bar, but there will be a separate entrance and area just for people who want to use the drug for medicinal purposes.

There will even be a medical professional at the facility who can recommend a particular strain to treat illnesses and ailments.

“We have ten strains that we purchased primarily for medical. They’re low in THC and high in CBD. We know that there's a large cry here for medical needs here in this state." Monarch America Inc. Vice President, John Hunt said.

The lounge is open to the general public.

This means people from the reservation or even those from out of state can come and use the smoking lounge.

Whether it's for medical or recreational use, consumers will only be able to purchase one gram at a time and will not be able to take it with them when they leave.
