The guidelines outline specific requirements that must be followed when parents, guardians and caregivers apply to obtain medical marijuana for children with a physician-documented serious medical condition.

Once approved, Murphy said the letter should be carried whenever medical marijuana is being transported outside of an individual's home.

All applicants will need a photo ID and will have to complete a background check.

They outline the specific requirements parents and other caregivers must follow in order to apply to obtain medical marijuana to administer to someone under the care.To be eligible for treatment with medical marijuana, children must have a serious medical condition documented by a physician. The temporary regulations will explain the medical marijuana program's operation and will be in place for two years from the date they are published.

Gov. Tom Wolf signed legislation legalizing medical marijuana in Pennsylvania in April. "The department welcomes and encourages input from the public, its partners, and stakeholders during the temporary regulation drafting process".
