Marijuana Bust Uncovers Impressive Pot Farm

It has a street value of nearly a million dollars now it’s in the custody of law enforcement. We’re talking marijuana and a lot of it growing in one area. One person is in custody, others still on the run. FOX Carolina’s Jamie Guirola reports investigators say this isn’t the biggest pot operation but it is certainly the most elaborate.

Even investigators who helped finish removing the huge amounts of marijuana Monday are impressed. Cpl. Ron Winegard/Department of Natural Resources: “its some good quality marijuana, they’re growing”. And you wouldn’t believe where they were growing it. On state property just north of Highway 11 off Highway 178. FOX Carolina got video of the pot farm from investigators. They say it’s as big as a football field.

Cpl. Ron Winegard/Department of Natural Resources: “You can smell it. It's an intoxicating smell you can smell it before we even got there you can smell the marijuana growing”.

The video shows some of the plants still in tact. Others already leveled by investigators. The people who grew the pot also used this area to camp out. They set up a tarp, with four tents— trashed the area with beer cans and food-- and even had small stoves to cook it with.

But this is what makes the operation so elaborate. To charge their cell phones, investigators say they stuffed a tube with batteries as a power source. As for watering the plants they connected a long black pipe that fed from natural spring water with spider line to each plant.

Cpl. Ron Winegard/Department of Natural Resources: “Just the level the way they cut it hanging upside down, drying it, it makes it more potent”.

Investigators accuse one man of being at the pot farm when they raided it last night but detectives think six others are on the run. An anonymous tip led D.N.R., the Forestry Service, SLED, and the Pickens County Sheriffs Office to the area.
