Of the two county supervisors up for re-election, the 2nd District's Paul Biane and the 4th District's Gary Ovitt, only Ovitt faces a challenger.
Kenneth Michael White, an Ontario attorney and graduate student, was so galled by the board's move to sue California over its medical marijuana law that he filed to run against Ovitt. "Regardless of what you think of medical cannabis, the voters passed it, the courts upheld it, and so therefore this is an issue of democracy," White said. Gathering the necessary signatures to qualify for the ballot was easy, he said. Harder was paying the registration and candidate statement printing fees, which together cost him more than $4,000, he said. "I'm putting my money where my mouth is," White said. "On June 6, the voters are going to have a choice to make."
