Marijuana Charges Dropped Vs. Brown, Gatewood

The Travis County Attorney's Office dismissed the charges of marijuana possession against Tarell Brown and Tyrell Gatewood on Friday.

The move was announced Friday afternoon.

Brown is still charged with unlawful possession of a firearm. Jamie Balagia and Terry Keel, the players' attorneys, said that the charge against Brown is "undergoing review by the County Attorney" and that they are "confident that it will be dismissed upon completion of the review."

Former Longhorn Aaron Harris is still charged with possession of marijuana. In a statement, County Attorney David Escamilla said Harris took responsibility for the drugs that were found.

"Aaron Harris, the driver of the vehicle, has proffered a statement to the county attorney's office accepting responsibility for the marijuana found in the vehicle on September 4, 2006," Escamilla said in the statement. "That statement is consistent with the evidence at the scene and nothing about the results of the urine tests taken by Tarell Brown or Tyrell Gatewood or in our investigation contradict the driver's statement or links the marijuana to Tarell Brown or Tyrell Gatewood. Simply stated, the cases against Tarell Brown and Tyrell Gatewood for possession of marijuana, given the evidence we currently have, are insufficient."

Harris, Brown and Gatewood were arrested on Monday morning after Harris was stopped by police on North I-35 for swerving.

Both Brown and Gatewood have been suspended from playing in Texas' big game on Saturday vs. Ohio State.
