A bill that would broaden the rules for people who use marijuana for their medical conditions moved a step closer to becoming law today.
A final vote on the proposal could come tomorrow. Vermont already allows marijuana to be used to reduce the symptoms associated with cancer, AIDS or multiple sclerosis. The new bill deletes those specific diseases as the only qualifications for using marijuana medically. Instead, it provides that marijuana can be used to treat a "debilitating medical condition" as long as reasonable medical efforts have been made to relieve symptoms. Additionally, the legislation would allow people registered for medical use of marijuana to grow more plants.
