There are signs everywhere in the Grand Falls Provincial Court reminding absent-minded cell phone owners to turn off their cell phone. Perhaps negligent drug users could use the same reminder about illegal marijuana possession.
During a break in Grand Falls Court proceedings on Sept. 23, a sheriff noticed a marijuana joint lying on a floor heating grill located at the entrance to the courtroom. It was handed over to a member of the Grand Falls Town Police. It had apparently been brought into the courtroom by one of those attending provincial court that morning. When the sheriff asked if the joint belonged to anyone, one lady inquired about the drug, but quickly denied it was hers. Another courtroom spectator told police she suspected another courtroom observer, a male with "NYPD" on his t-shirt, dropped the joint. Since no one came forward to acknowledge ownership of the illegal drug, the joint was later destroyed and no charge could be laid in the matter.
