40yr old virgin here - Neuropathy - Awaiting my card

I'm hoping to glean wisdom from the plethora of info here and all the years of experience. Hard to believe a GenXer has made it this far without any cannabis experience, but here I am, a 40 year old virgin.

I have a 12 year old nerve injury, I've been on narcs of one flavor or another the majority of that time, with little relief. Finally discussed mmj as an option with my doc a few months ago. He suggested a trip to Colorado for some testing (I live in NM), but hectic schedule hasn't allowed for a trip as of yet, so we pulled the trigger on the application for the card. However the state is anywhere from 60-120 days out on issuing new cards and renewals, (They have 30 days by law, bureaucracy, right!), so I don't anticipate seeing it any time soon.

Nice to meet all of you & TIA for any help, resources you may provide. I am really a blank canvas!
