Could someone PLEASE settle this LED question for me

Hi all. Glad to be part of the forum. I've joined because I have a pressing question: should I buy HPS or LED for a little hobby grow I'm setting up? Basically, BS-aside, do LED lights work effectively? I was thinking of buying the GrowUFO, available at

but 400 bucks seems like a lot to waste on something that might not work...?

I've read the journals, but there seems to be tons of debate about how effective these lights are. If someone could give me some insight, I'd really appreciate it.

Hey, Stix, thanks...I read that one, and it seems like there's a pretty heated debate going on. According to BigSmokie's post, s/he was going to try a grow with some very similar lights, but I couldn't find a Grow Journal for it. I did find an LED grow journal:

Which looks like a pretty decent grow? Any other thoughts?

From what I've read, LEDs are ok for veg but not yet up to snuff when it comes to flowering.

There's the new fangled tri-band spectrum types that may be an improvement; but I've not seen a grow to the end with one yet.
