1st Grow Just Starting - Super Noob

I been doing lots of reading here, looking around ect. Had my seeds come in and got everything setup.
I don't smoke pot however I live in a state where you can grow it now without a med card. So being American I exercise my rights. So here goes to the first grow in hopes that someone will enjoy this stuff.

So the space is about 3 foot wide and 4 foot long and highest point is around 7 or 8 feet.
At this point I have a 4x2 and 2x2 fluorescent grow light going. End of this week a 600W HPS should show up.
Mr. Pineapple plant was enjoying the light for a while before the good stuff showed up.

You can see the set up. 7 - 2 gal pots, 1 - 3 gal pot and 1 - 5 gal bucket.
In the background little tomatoes that the wife wants

Re: 1st grow just starting. Super noob

Looks good T5 runs cool you can get really close to the plant. usually you wont see burn or heat unless the plant actualy touches the bulbs. Good call switching to hps later as T5 dosent penetrate the canpoy very well, that being said there have been some nice grows from start to finish under T5s. Good luck

Thanks!
My 400W HPS should be here on Saturday. I think I will run two 2x2 T5's on the side and use the 2x4 as a light for mom plants, thats if the white widows are fem. Going for a 24 hour light cycle as most of them are auto flowers. With that any clones I take from the moms should grow well under 24/7 and I think by the time the autos are done I can go on a 12/12.

Just watered today and added some root enhancer. Its called Rapid Start from General Hydroponics.

Any idea when or what size I should add the HPS to the grow?

Im a firm beliver in GH products I use to run Fox Farm but it was way to unpredictable. As for when to switch to hps thats a debate that could go on for days everyone has there own opinion. You just have to research your strain and make a decesion based on the facts and how you interpert them. i am sure youll find a wide awray of opinions in the forums.

well day shy of one week update!

400W Metal Halide yes PLEASE!!!!!!!
As you can see I have a fan sucking air on the other side of this tube. Thing puts off MAD heat.

This is the White widow X White widow that had the first leaf busted off. The cotyledon.
Well it now has 3 leaves and 1 cotyledon.

Made a massive error and try to start seeds in some Jiffy pots. Bad idea. All the plants I have growing now came from the paper towel.
I really wanted some kind of berry plant so I did the paper towel method with my last Auto Berry Ryder ( lost 2 berry ryder and 4 other seeds fuck you jiffy)
She is peeking out now.

The one issue that has me a little worried is on one of my road runners the leaf is curled a little or bumpy. You can see it on the left side. Not sure if this is because of low humidity, heat ect.
With the 400W bulb temps are warm low 80's. Cant keep them down in this area much.
Ideas please???

Hey there hank123 and welcome to 420mag.com im glad to hear that you are just growing because you can. it makes me pissed that i have to hide my grow lol. as for the little curled up leaf i wouldnt fret to much. there new little leaves can sometimes be all weird and kinda deformed. the plant i have now her one leaf was all fucked up but she is a gorgeous plant now. big things is not to over worry about things. when you grow in soil things tend to fix them selves as long as you dont do anything drastic to the soil. i grow all organic in soil and there will be some days she shows signs of some deficency but she corrects it her self in a day or 2. another big thing is not to OVER WATER. i killed my first 3 full grown plants by over watering lol. other that that keep it simple and give them lots of light and they will grow big and strong!!
Keep it green man!!

another thing, what kind of soil are you using?? some soils you dont have to feed for awhile. just asking so we can know when and how much to feed when the time comes. always good to be prepared!!!

12 days in! For a noob I must be doing something right cause all seems to be well. (lots of that has to do with reading here on this site)
One watering done since the last check in. Noting added to the water. Watering in the next day or 2 will get Rapid Start from General Hydroponics. They seem to love it.
Temps have been 80-85F with very low humidity. Right now outside its 13%. In the room maybe around 16-23%
Also with the location of the grow room its very hard to lower temps. The way I have it set up right now i have a fan blowing air in right next to where its removing the air. For other reasons I have to keep the temp in the house around 70-75. Moving in a few weeks to a bigger area so I should be able to build a nice grow box.

I must say this is one odd looking plant lol its some tomattos that I have veging 24/7. Transplanted yesterday from a small pot. Recovered in 1 1/2 days.
2013-02-17_18-33-51_977.jpg

This is the late started. Berry ryder. Super pumped about it. Saw on a different forum that someone did a little LST and it worked out GREAT! Ill be doing the same.
2013-02-17_18-41-14_979.jpg

Next is the White Widow X Cheese. This is the plant that only had one cotyledon and oddly shaped first set of leaves. Its not bushing like the others. Maybe it has something to due with the damage, strain ect.
Its been slow however moving along.
2013-02-17_18-33-44_784.jpg

Now this little hussy started to smell a little a few days ago. She is super short with great growth. Cant be more then 2 1/2 tall. Kind of smells like nice clean plant, marijuana, and dirty brick Mexican weed.
2013-02-17_18-33-21_677.jpg

Ahhh this is my 2nd to fav plant. The other road runner. She is taller the tri leave is longer then my hand, note you im a big dude and I got some big freaken hands, and is growing like a monster.
2013-02-17_18-33-28_29.jpg

This pretty bitch is my fav. Always grown better then all the others. Taller seems to fill out more ect.
White Widow X White Widow.

White widow X Cheese is stubby, small and not growing like the others. filling out however.
2013-02-23_17-04-26_349.jpg

The White widow X White Widow is growing like mad. Have he/she in a 5 gal bucket with about 4 gal of dirt.
So running in the issue of the leaves hitting. Not sure what to do about this. Ideas?

Grow room in action.

Any feed back is welcome please!

They look super-healthy! :goodjob:

And your White Widow... let her dry up a little (so the soil is more managable/tapper of and dosent stick to the sides) then lift her gently out of the bucket and fill up with soil.

edit;
I put my 2x4 and 2x2 T5's up again yesterday on the sides. anyone see an issue with this? Or just a waste?
I think it just a waste of energy at this point, -think of the enviroment! :hippy:

Perhaps you could build A microgrow/veggie-box or use it later to the lower branches that have been shadowed or something?

That is the plan. I'm getting ready to move here in about two weeks so I will have a veg and a flower room. I will use the T5 on the mom plants and for the first week of any new seedlings.

Thank you too for telling me how do add soil I plan on doing this tomorrow as that's when they will need water.

As a sidenote I am still running the lights 24/7. As you can tell they are all healthy .
Tomorrow I will also post photos of my secret ingredients. I think you plays a big role in the health of the plants and how far they progressed in the short time. I don't see very many plants at this age limit this big and healthy

I don't know if you need the t5's but if you do or if you can afford the extra power go for it, shouldn't hurt anything and it should help em grow that much faster. I have 2 T5 8 bulb by 4 footers next to a 400 watt MH. If I didnt need to run all 3 I wouldn't but I need it as there is more plants than I have lights for. If you want check out my journal, theres a link in my sig.
