I am a long time indulger of the mighty leaf, and having just re-located from lush western Canada down to the bible belt of rural North Carolina. I have decided to try to grow my own supply rather than paying the ridicules prices they are asking for sub-par product down here.
I have done a lot of reading the last few months and am simply amazed at the ingenuity, craftiness and awesome looking crops of the home growers and I think with help from the people here I too can do a pretty decent job and become self sufficient in the area of mj. Like most beginners I tried my hand at germinating some bag seeds several weeks ago and now have 4 healthy plants living in soil under 150w of daylight cfl in a plastic cabinet in my outbuilding. It is my plan to soon build a 4'x6' insulated and air conditioned grow room in my building in the hopes of getting a couple nice yields per year to keep my mostly weekend smoking habit satisfied. This new "hobby" is already consuming most of my daily thoughts and I cannot remember being this excited about anything in a long time. I will post some pics when allowed to. K. ![]() Where it starts...With easy mods this little cabinet was easily light and air sealed but is too small and I will be expanding into a dedicated grow room this weekend but will continue to use this cabinet for future cloning. ![]() The standard negative pressure ventilation system which draws cool air from under my building keeping daytime temps between 80 -88 degrees in a 105 degree building. ![]() The plants, from some bag seed of course, hoping for at least 1 female. ![]() Best looking plant at 30 days, I have just LST it yesterday as it was getting a little too tall. |

I love bagseed grows! You never know what you'll get. Most of the weed I got the seeds from has been pretty bad, because it had been improperly grown. It's nice to know you can do way better than whoever grew it before. ;-) I love the set up.

Thanks for the comment MsFox, I just started reading through your first "Fun Bag Seed Grow" and I must say I am quite envious of your growbox and look forward to reading the entire thread to see how it and your other grows turned out.
The bag seed I used came from some decent weed and if I can get it even 10% better I will be happy. As my grow will strictly be for personal use, and I am not a big fan of the couch lock that comes with some of the more popular strains of purchased seeds I may just stick with my bag seed plants. |

If you ever find a good outdoor spot ole Carolina summer will do the rest. I don't have a journal at the moment but I took one female I flowered indoors, finished it outside in a strategic spot(because of the light),clipped all the colas off and then put it in a spot that gets sun all day long.It is in reveg now and almost 3ft. tall and going like crazy. It will have somewhere around 20 colas, maybe more by the end of summer and will more than likely be 6 to 8ft. tall at this rate.I can't wait as the bud I took from it has been curing for a month and it is dank and sweet! Good luck on your grow, can't wait to see some girls!

Hey Minus, you are right about the heat and humidity here, I don't go too far from the A/C unless its to the pool or beach for much of the summer.
I too am blessed with a great location to do some guerrilli gardening and I am so tempted to set this group of plants outside to fend for themselves for the summer and wait till fall to do my indoor grow... Do you have any pics of your outside girl? |

welcome pokerwhore! I know what you mean about price vs. quality around here. I live in central NC about 45 min away from raleigh. unfortunately I am forced to find the best deal I can and hope it turns out decent. I used to grow white rhino, but now I live in an apartment and growing is a no-go (or no-grow? lol). good to see you taking the plant into your own hands! NC tends to be a pretty good place to grow outdoors as long as you are sneaky. I had one plant outside that got jacked by a neighbor kid. errrrrrrr. keep up the good work!

I lived down there for over a decade and never fully got used to the heat and humidity either, especially in August. I wish you luck with your grow, sounds like you're in a similar situation as I am with the bagseed and CFL. Looking at your pic with the CFL's turned on I would say you could lower the ones in the middle to about an inch or so above the tops of those plants and be fine. CFL's put off relatively little heat, heck, I can usually hold my 26W'rs with my bare hand. Although if you're temps are in the 80-88F range it may increase a little bit. What is the temperature difference between ambient air at the intake and your internal temp? Mine is running about 5F difference on average, sometimes as low as 2F with lights off. It must be designed right because the temp goes up when I have the door open and goes down when it is closed, I take that as a sign of good circulation. Curious how yours is. Also, maybe it's the couple hours I just spent in the sun but I don't understand your ventilation system. You say it's pulling cool air from under the home (which brings up another concern I'll get to in a moment)...where is the intake and the exhaust? I see the squirrel-cage fan but I'm not understanding where the air is going. One thing I noticed about some homes while living in the hot and humid Deep South (I hear NC is just as bad) is that there is often a lot of nasty gunk that grows underneath them, especially if there's not a layer of gravel and it's just straight dirt/slimy mud. You don't want to pull mold spores or anything in to your grow area so it would be a good idea to stick your head under there with a flashlight and check it out if you haven't already. Plants look good though! I don't know if I could give a testicle for a female plant, ok, maybe ONE...or maybe a left or right nipple

That would be a fuckin treat! I know the seeds were from Nirvana, but I'm not sure what site they were ordered from. I "adopted" them from a friend who already had more than enough. I know they were one of the most luscious looking plants I've seen.
