We cannot even agree on a candidate

How are we ever supposed to get Cannabis legalized?

Realistically, because I am at a loss.

We have our choices for president, that have very distinct views on the drug war, yet we have no solid stance on who to vote for. No wonder nothing ever gets done.

Anyone have suggestions?

Re: We cannot even agree on a candidate

Obama gave us no other choice but to
Vote a third party(Libertarian party), with his pick of Biden for VP.

I wonder if they will realize this
and have a last minute change?

Re: We cannot even agree on a candidate

I wouldn't expect any change, last minute or not. Im sad to say if we cant grasp the need for an alternate choice from these two sorry excuses for a candidate nothing will ever open our eyes. In my opinion picking between those two is like the rape victim picking the position. either way in the end we just end up screwed, hoping it wont hurt so bad next time.

Re: We cannot even agree on a candidate

the question was how to come together as a group/movement/voting block. so why is it becoming another thread about the candidates?

we don't come together because so many pro-marijuana organizations/websites are only motivated by greed and self-promotion. hundreds of thousands of marijuana users with many more who are sympathetic to the cause and we remain divided. its amazing we've come as far as we have. we need to come together.

i remember how the gov. infiltrated activist groups in the sixties and they are still at it today. they get folks on the inside to stir up trouble from within.

we need to wake up.

Re: We cannot even agree on a candidate

If you're talking about a single issue candidate(we're talking legalizing MMJ) then there is only one clear candidate but he has zero chance of getting elected. That would be Ron Paul. Obama possibly would have a favorable stance on MMJ bit its very unclear. He has never came out and said where he stands. We could try a grass roots push for Ron but I don't think people understand where he stands on other issues. He's way to the right of the mainstream repubs.

Re: We cannot even agree on a candidate

If Mccain gets elected, he will try to destroy state MMJ laws because he believes that MJ is in direct competition with alchohol...the source of most of his wealth.

If Obama gets elected, I think we at least have a chance for rescheduling in his second term.

Re: We cannot even agree on a candidate

What is really needed is a federal referendum for legalizing all natural substances. All Americans would get to vote on it then.

Re: We cannot even agree on a candidate

My stance remains a vote on the lesser of two evils. Did you know that the VP only has one real duty? To break a tie in the senate. Of course Cheney decided he would change all that, but other than taking over for the president in time of sickness/death, it is his/her only duty.

Obama chose Biden to get the more moderate republican vote.

The myth that Obama is up in the air on this subject is insane. This video is from Aug 2007, the last time he spoke on it, that I have seen anyway. And it is consistent with his stance that it is a waste of resources.
YouTube - Senator Barack Obama on Medical Marijuana--Aug. 21, 2007

The bottom line is we need to make a choice and stick with it, rally behind it, and do it.

I suggest we poll it, then join it, and start making phone calls and going door to door.

Re: We cannot even agree on a candidate

Boss,

While Obama started off as a reformer, he changed his position at the democratic debate on December 17, 2007 - 4 months after the youtube clip you posted.

This next story is a month after the debate and 5 months after the youtube clip you posted. Nevermind, Barack Obama Wants to Arrest Marijuana Users After All | Stop the Drug War (DRCNet)

I spent some time on barackobama.com and using the google search within a site feature and was surprised that Obama has no position stated on his own website.

I tend to think he views this as a risky issue to talk about and has been saying what he needs to say, to please whomever he's speaking to at the time, (like all politicians do). I'd think that given the chance, if there were no political repercussions, he'd come down on our side.

However, there is never a scenario in politics without polticial repercussions and the Biden pick was like an icepick in our collective eyes.

By anology, I'm a huge fan of Martin Luther King and his civil rights legacy, but if King were running for president and picked the Imperial Wizard of the KKK to be his running mate - I'd have the same doubts about his selection (and commitment) as I do about Obama's choice of Biden.

Re: We cannot even agree on a candidate

If you needed to get elected to enact the reforms required at this time in our history, there are certain subjects you would not talk about. At least this is the way I see it.

His policy on this subject is the same as on many other subjects, it's not good for the people, and it's not a good way to spend money.

At least he had the guts to admit trying drugs. Just that statement has sunk candidates all over the world.

Anyway, these minor doubts, injected as true arguments not to vote for him, are all too common. I don't buy it.

Standard party line

One for and one against,
same ol' same ol'
seems to me,
we should support the third option
and those of the other parties(no matter party)
that have supported The Cause openly.
Not when it suits them or the party.

I agree, but in this country, with this system, it's not a realistic expectation.
