Hawaii: Legislature overrides governor's veto of medical marijuana study bill!

Yesterday, the Hawaii State Legislature overrode Gov. Linda Lingle's veto of SB 1058 by a vote of 25-0 in the Senate and 38-9 in the House. This new law establishes a task force to examine crucial issues surrounding Hawaii's medical marijuana law, which was established in 2000.

The task force will:
(1) Examine current state statutes, state administrative rules, and all county policies and procedures relating to the medical marijuana program;
(2) Examine all issues and obstacles that qualifying patients have encountered with the program;
(3) Examine all issue and obstacles that state and county law enforcement agencies have encountered with the program; (4) Compare and contrast Hawaii's program with all other state programs; and (5) Address other issues and perform any other function necessary as the task force deems appropriate, relating to the program.

Thank you for helping ensure that the state of Hawaii continues to move forward by looking at ways to improve its medical marijuana program. Without all of the e-mails and calls from people like you, this law would have likely not been enacted.
